THE CHALLENGE
Actaris Metering Systems needed a software system to manage their next generation of Smart Prepayment Meters. The new meters had to hit the market as quickly as possible so time was of the essence in developing the supporting software. Alton8 were selected because of their track record in this area and because of an innovative proposal which fast-tracked the development process.
THE APPROACH
Alton8 proposed using an existing legacy system as the foundation for the new system, re-using common code where possible. A focused team was created comprising developers and analysts with industry knowledge. Small teams were responsible for developing and testing specific areas and the customer was given early sight of the deliverables to minimise any rework. Documentation was re-used and written at a level which would allow future support by third parties.
THE SOLUTION
The user interface was written in C# .NET for flexibility and the back end processes in Pro C for speed to process the thousands of transactions per day. Oracle was selected as the database as this was essential to the proposal. The solution was successfully delivered and went live after a short period of customer acceptance testing.
